Nestled in the heart of Vancouver is the small and intimate neighborhood of Coal Harbour. As the name indicates it is a harbor-neighborhood of Vancouver and sits right on the south-western bank of the Vancouver harbour. Its view and relaxed atmosphere makes this a popular neighborhood. It is bordered by highway 99 and highway 1A and 7A also run through Coal Harbour making it easily accessible and convenient. To the east of the neighborhood is the Burrard stop of the SkyTrain and from the eastern edge the Waterfront station is within walking distance which easily connects you to the rest of the region with the SkyTrain and SeaBus. The Seaplane Terminal on the eastern edge of the neighborhood connects residents and visitors with many other coastal destinations in British Columbia as well as popular destinations like Whistler and Seattle.
Coal Harbour is a delightful combination of business and residential. Its many skyscrapers contain both business and condos. It is also home to the Vancouver Convention Centre that remembers this neighborhood’s history as a shipyard. Part of this history is celebrated by Canada Place. Situated where the old pier used to be this national landmark, dedicated to all Canadians by the Canadian government, is of historical and cultural importance and today it hosts various free events for residents and visitors throughout the year.
The harbor is, of course, the biggest feature in this neighborhood and residents and visitors alike enjoy runs, walks or strolls along the seawall with its beautiful view. You might even see an inquisitive seal loitering about as you pass by. You can also consider renting a bike and take in the sights while you pedal over to Stanley Park all the way to the west of Coal Harbour. This massive park in the middle of the big city has something for everybody with various trails, beaches, wildlife, restaurants, landmarks as well as Canada’s largest aquarium. It is must visit for residents and visitors alike. As you head over to Stanley Park you can stop and join a harbor cruise or aerial sightseeing tour.
The waterfront is dotted with some wonderful cafes and restaurants or if you are in the mood for beer or the best of BC wine you can head into one of the pubs. If fine-dining is more your style there are various options in the more high-end hotels situated both on the waterfront and a couple of streets into the neighborhood.
Potential residential buyers will find numerous condominium options in the various high-rise buildings – from quant 550 sf properties to sprawling 6600 sf options as some of the best options with an unobstructed view of the harbor. Townhouses are less popular but there are some options available should it be what you are looking for though many condos outsize townhouses on their square footage.
Coal Harbor is a fantastically calm neighborhood right next to the centre and should you want more shopping or activity options it is easy to just pop over to Downtown Vancouver.
