    A small, neighbourhood with a square shape, Oakridge is located in the center of Vancouver. It is bordered by West 41th Avenue to the north, by West 49th Avenue to the south, by Ontario Street to the east and by Oak Street to the west. 

    Most of the structures in this area did not exist until after WWII, except for the Langara Golf Course (which was built in 1926), and some boarding schools and hospitals. It was one of the last areas left in its original state before being available for development. In 1959, many family homes were build, which then brought about the construction of the Oakridge Shopping Centre. The shopping centre brought with it a boom in home construction, and thus became the epicentre of residential growth. 

    Because it is relatively new, Oakridge is still one of the least historical districts in the city. Its main architectural style are bungalow style houses from the 1950s and 1960s. These bungalows have been renovated or demolished in recent years to make way for multi-story residences in their ample city lots. There are also many multilevel, multifamily housing options available as well. Because Oakridge has a growing senior population, there are also several assisted-living facilities within its borders. 

    In spite of its small size, there are many green spaces in Oakridge. The Langara Golf Couse offers, beside the golf course, jogging, dog-walking, and walking trails. Besides the Golf Course area, there are other green spaces areas in the form of two parks: Columbia Park and Tisdall Park. Close by, the YMCA and the Community Centre are also included the large quantity of available recreational facilities. 

    For the residents of Oakridge, the heart of the shopping activities available in the area is the Oakridge Shopping Centre. There are several large chain stores that make this shopping such a hub of activity, such as Safeway. Most of the shopping choices are of the high-end kind and showcase the middle-class and multicultural demographic of the area. This Centre also offers entertainment like and auditorium, movie theatres, and several restaurant outlets. There are also many pharmacies and medical offices in the Oakridge Centre Towers. 

    Due to its very central location within Vancouver, public transportation to this neighbourhood is frequent and accessible. The Canada Line has two stations: at 41st Avenue and Cambie, and at 49th Avenue and Cambie. This has improved accessibility and brought new vitality to the area, as well as promises of future development. It is also a short drive or bus ride to UBC and Richmond, with easy access to the downtown main area. 

    Because it is relatively young, this community is in constant evolution and growth. Nowadays, its demographics show that over 50% of the population is of Chinese ascent. The fact that the neighbourhood is home to Langara College means that a big amount of its residents are students who sometimes choose to remain in the area. Oakridge can boast of being the perfect blend of tree-lined streets with multi-use housing and functional and accessible shopping areas.
